There will be plenty of sore legs this weekend as two brave teams of Allcooper staff prepare to step up for one of their toughest ever challenges - Trek the Night.
Our two groups of adventure-seekers - including a Ladies Team and Men's Team - have volunteered themselves to embark on a 40-mile walk along the famous Cotswold Way, all in the name of charity.
What is Trek the Night?
Trek the Night is a gruelling overnight hike, heading south to north along the Cotswold Way. The walk covers a distance of 40 miles and those taking on the challenge will start their journeys at the stroke of midnight. In teams of 3 or 4, participants will walk through the night and past sunrise the following day.
Trek the Night is a popular team event that is organised by the charity, Action Medical Research. The aim of Trek the Night is to raise as much money for Action Medical Research as possible through sponsorship and donations raised by each team taking part.
The route itself begins at Rednock School in Dursley and ends at Cleeve Hill Golf Club in Cheltenham. You can see the entire route on the map below.

Raising money to help save children's lives
Action Medical Research is the leading UK-wide charity saving and changing children’s lives through medical research. For 65 years they have helped pioneer ways to prevent disease and develop treatments benefiting millions of people. Their research has helped to beat polio in the UK, develop ultrasound, fight meningitis and prevent stillbirths. But they urgently need to develop more new treatments and cures for sick babies and children and can’t do it without our help.

How much have our teams raised?
Since signing up to the Trek the Night challenge back in February, our teams have tasked themselves with raising as much money for the cause as possible.
From running Prize Draws to organising charity Quiz Nights, both teams really have gone out of their way to generate funds for the cause. At the time of writing, they have together raised a combined sum of over £2,000 - what an achievement!
Meet our Trekkers
Representing our Trek the Night Ladies Team are four trekkers who help keep our customers safe and secure from our Head Office in Gloucester.
Jess is a Project Manager and works within our Installations Team to ensure our larger security and fire safety projects are delivered to the highest standards, on time and on budget.
When asked what gave her the motivation to take part, Jess explained:
"It’s a great team event which will challenge us physically and mentally. I’ve always wanted to run a marathon, but I can’t run - so walking 14 more miles with the team seemed like the next best thing. It’s for an amazing charity and will be an achievement to be proud of!"
Sally has been with Allcooper for over 10 years and also works within our Installations Team as an Administrator. Sally helps coordinate our Engineers and liaises with customers to ensure their systems are installed at a convenient time and to their satisfaction.
Samantha is a key member of our Finance Team and assists our customers and suppliers with accounts queries and invoicing.
Chelsea is member of the Cooper family and helps manage the signalling requirements of our monitored security systems. This includes helping customers with their monitoring accounts and dealing with our partner Alarm Receiving Centre.
Commenting on why she decided to take part in Trek the Night, Chelsea explained:
"I like to challenge myself and try new things. Trek the Night provided me with the perfect opportunity to do so, while helping a good cause in Action Medical Research. I have even surprised myself with the training and realised how enjoyable walking can be!"

In our Men's Team, we have three trekkers who are used to travelling long distances - but usually in their Allcooper vans!
Andrew is a Service Engineer at Allcooper. Based in the Gloucestershire area, Andrew helps to keep our security systems working to their optimum ability, every day, by carrying out maintenance visits for our customers across the county.
Like Andrew, Michael is also a Service Engineer. Michael predominantly supports our residential customers in Gloucestershire, maintaining Intruder Alarm systems to help keep our customers' homes effectively protected.
Finally, we're pleased to introduce Matt, who is also a Service Engineer but is based in the West Midlands area.
When asked about his reasons for joining Trek the Night, Matt said:
"My daughter was in a special care unit after she was born, so I have seen first hand the incredible work done by doctors, nurses and charities like Action Medical Research in helping support sick babies and children. So, challenging myself whilst supporting a great cause is why I decided to sign myself up for Trek the Night."

Good luck to both our teams!
On behalf of everyone associated with Allcooper, we wish both our teams a safe and successful Trek the Night challenge. We know you will do us, yourself and the team at Action Medical Research, proud.
