For the second year in succession, Allcooper Group is proud to be a sponsor of the Gloucester History Festival, which starts this weekend and runs from 2 to 17 September.
This year's festival is set to be bigger and better than ever! The event is all about celebrating thought-provoking events and significant moments in history - in Gloucester, and all across the world.
Throughout the festival there will be parades, re-enactments, talks, open days and family activities taking place across the city. It’s a chance to discover more about Gloucester's rich history, from its illustrious Roman background, to the Siege of Gloucester, which took place during the first English Civil War in 1643. There’s also an amazing line-up of famous actors, historians and speakers with a strong passion for the past.
Amongst the hundreds of activities taking place, make sure you look out for two special Blackfriars Talks, which are sponsored by Allcooper.
Saturday 9 September - Natalie Haynes Stands Up for the Classics
Natalie Haynes, star of the BBC Radio 4 series Natalie Haynes Stands Up for the Classics, is an unlikely combination: a brilliant and very funny stand-up comic and also a passionate lover of Greek and Roman history. Enjoy her unique one-woman show uniting ancient history and stand-up comedy as she takes us on a whistle-stop tour of the ancient world.
Friday 15 September - M: M15’s Greatest Spymaster
Many believe Ian Fleming based his James Bond spy chief ‘M’ on Maxwell Knight, the legendary master spook and head of MI5. Henry Hemming tells the extraordinary real-life story of Maxwell Knight - of incredible Cold War agents risking their lives with the safety of the world in the balance and at its heart a complicated, fascinating spy-master spinning an ever more intricate web.
