Gerard raises £3,000 for 'Star Appeal' in London Marathon
![]() |
A big congratulations for Gerard on completing the London Marathon and raising over £3,000 for the 'Star Appeal' at the National Star College. Gerard managed to complete the 26.2 mile stretch passing all the major sites in London; in 4 hours, 55 minutes. This also beats his proposed target of 5 hours which is a great achievement in itself. He only started training in January! |
After the marathon, Gerard states:
I have to say it was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do, not only the marathon itself but the training leading up to the event. It means five months of shear time, energy and effort to get to a point where your body is in a relatively fit state to be able to complete 26 miles along streets and tarmac. I took a tour of the finish line the day before the marathon so I know where I was heading, but nothing could prepare me for the day.
I was running the marathon alone so took the underground tube with all the other runners and there were very mixed emotions from elation to sheer misery. At the start line near Greenwich Station there was a large holding pen and public address system playing encouraging music to lift spirits. You are encouraged to drink plenty, so thank god there were toilets there too before we lined up for the start. I was in between wonder woman, the stig, a couple of elves and elvis. The start was slow and nervy until we crossed the start line and then all hell broke loose.
I have to say running the London Marathon is one of the most amazing things I have experienced in my life and I can see why people I would have called “nutters” in the past, do it.
With your help I have raised over £3,000 for our chosen charity the National Star College “Star Appeal”, for which they are very grateful.
Thank you once again for your tremendous support which is very, very much appreciated.
